Mill Demolition

Demolition work took place in Wigan, Lancashire, to pave the way for a £45 million transformation of Wigan Pier, the well-known north west tourist attraction. J Freeley Ltd were appointed by construction firm Nuttall Construction Ltd who were working in partnership with Wigan Council and Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust on the ambitious regeneration of the Wigan Pier Quarter.

J Freeley Ltd demolished the derelict Victoria Hall which is sited at the front of the architecturally significant Trencherfield Mill which is now the centrepiece of the regeneration project, followed by the demolition of four more disused buildings in the Wigan Pier Quarter.

“For health and safety reasons, with its proximity to the main road, our operatives carried out careful demolition by hand, getting access to the building in a high lift platform. We were proud to have been chosen as contractors to this much anticipated regeneration project which will transform the Wigan Pier Quarter into a rich cultural, heritage, leisure, tourism and business location of regional significance.”
